Missionary Prayer

The first Sunday of each month we gather to pray for our missionaries and projects around the world. We meet at 8:30 a.m. in PCPC's Parlor. Your next opportunity to join us is May 4, 2008.

Praying for the World

God is a work in a mighty way, and He chooses to use our prayers for the advancement of His kingdom. Here are some other ways to pray for the world. Visit Operation World’s website to learn how to pray for the countries around the world.

Prayer Ideas

“I want to pray, but what does that actually look like?” For some reason, even as Christians and among Christians, praying takes boldness, confidence, and intentionality. Below are some practical ideas to help provide opportunity and encouragement to pray.

Make a Plan.  How do you want to focus your prayers?

  • Missionaries (e.g. work, families, team, etc)
  • Unreached People groups
  • The 10/40 Window
  • Countries
  • Scripture
  • Combination

 Who’s praying?

  • Individually
  • With your spouse
  • With your family
  • With your friends
  • In your small group

How do you want to?

  • Individually
  • With your spouse
  • With your family
  • With your friends
  • With your small group

In Groups. Who’s facilitating? How about you? Whoever it is will find it helpful to come to the meeting with a game plan. Will you pray all together? Who will open the prayer? Who will close the prayer? Will everybody pray? Will you break into small groups? How will you divide the groups?

  • Number off
  • Men and women
  • People next to each other
  • Assigned prayer partners
  • One at a time
  • Everyone prays out loud at the same time
  • Groups of two or three
  • Pray “popcorn” prayers that are a couple sentences long each

There are plenty of methods and expressions of prayer, but these are some ideas to help you in case you need help to start, your current method is missing something, or you want to try something new. The point is to pray. If you are leading a group, pay attention to your group. Pray for the Lord to teach you how to pray. Have patience with different approaches, because sometimes the “success” and “failure” results from newness and lack of familiarity.
